Ulf Nyman, MD, PhD • Peter Aspelin, MD, PhD • Jarl Jakobsen, MD, PhD • Jonas Björk, PhD Herbert Y. Kressel, MD Hi. This is Herb Kressel and welcome to the December 2015 Radiology podcast. We have a very full lineup for this month’s podcast. First, I’ll be speaking with the authors of a controversies in radiology pairing that we’re featuring on contrast induced nephropathy. There’s been a lot of controversy about whether or not the entity exists and what the risks are. I’ll be speaking with Drs. Ulf Nyman and Jonas Björk from Malmö, Sweden and Lund, Sweden; as well as Dr. Robert McDonald and Matthew Davenport. Dr. McDonald is from the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Matthew Davenport is from the University of Michigan. I think you’ll find this discussion quite illuminating. Next, my colleague Dave Kallmes, our Deputy Editor for Neuroradiology, will be speaking with Jody Tanabe on a very provocative study on Sex Differences in Gray Matter Changes and Brain Behavior Relationships in Substance Dependence. I think you’ll find this a very stimulating discussion. And finally, Dr. Alex Bankier, our Deputy Editor for Thoracic Imaging, will be speaking with Drs. Miranda Kirby and Grace Parraga on their manuscript, Do Imaging Measurements of Emphysema and Airways Disease Explain Symptoms and Exercise Capacity in Mild to Moderate Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease? This is a rather long podcast for the end of the year. So take it in small bits. Thank you very much and have a Happy New Year.

Overconsumption of contrast media in percutaneous coronary intervention: Focusing on cost and acute kidney injury
Irrational use of medicines is a major problem worldwide. Since iodixanol (Visipaque®) was categorized in Category I (AV) based on the ABC-VED analysis in our hospital, we evaluated the amount of visipaque use and estimated the incremental cost based on the maximum contrast dose (MCD) following irrational use of contrast media. This retrospective study was conducted on 100 admitted patients age...
متن کاملA Randomized Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trial Examining the Effects of Pentoxifylline on Contrast Induced Nephropathy Reduction after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in High Risk Candidates
Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) (known as contrast-induced acute kidney injury) occurs as a result of acute worsening of renal function following a procedure with administration of iodine contrasts agent and remains a substantial concern in clinical practices. The purpose of this study is to investigate the preventive effect of Pentoxifylline supplementation on reduction of CIN occurrence af...

متن کاملAmeliorative effect of cotreatment with the methanolic leaf extract of Urtica dioica on acute kidney injury induced by gentamicin in rats
Objective: Effects of cotreatment with Urtica dioica (UD) methanolic leaf extract on gentamicin (GM)-induced acute kidney injury were evaluated in rats. Materials and Methods: Male Wistar rats (n=32) were separated into four groups. Gentamicin (100 mg/kg/day, IP) was injected for eight days with or without UD methanolic extract (200 mg/kg/day, gavage). Th...
متن کاملIn vivo effects of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells in a rat model of acute ischemic kidney injury
Objective(s): Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) as a severe condition of acute kidney injury (AKI) is the most common clinical problem with high mortality rates of 35-60% deaths in hospital. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) due to unique regenerative characteristics are ideal candidates for the treatment of the ischemic injuries. This work is focused on the administration of MSC to IRI-induce...
